I am so excited that my first “Dine With Me” post is on this fabulous modern diner called Saturday Dinette located at 807 Gerrard St E, Toronto. They are open for brunch and dinner, hours are on their website.
The owner’s name is Suzanne Barr. She started her professional culinary training years ago. For some time she was working in New York and her diner reflects that. The style of Saturday Dinette reminded me of Brooklyn as soon as I walked in. Suzanne’s husband greeted us as we entered with a genuine smile. They work extremely well together and it’s obvious they love what they do.
Suzanne has recently started an employment program for the YWCA Toronto organization. This organization gives women and girls fleeing violence opportunities to enhance their skills and develop confidence.
Saturday Dinette has an open concept kitchen that serves up fresh seasonal ingredients.
I ordered the Herbed Poached Eggs and let me tell you, it was well worth the $10 I spent on it. You get two perfectly poached eggs on a delicious and flavourful pea puree which was served on top a thick slice of wholemeal toast. I tried everything individually and it was delicious, I then put a mountain on my fork and it was game over. The greens were out of this world. I would go back and order the same thing over and over again.
My friend enjoyed the Blackened Filet Sandwich $16, which was an open face sandwich. It was topped with a delicious summer slaw and pomegranate. The citrusy flavour of the slaw balanced extremely well with the fish. It was served with salt and vinegar chips. Thank you food gods for blessing Toronto with Suzanne.
If you are ever in Toronto I highly recommend you pop in at Saturday Dinette. It is so so so worth it.
