Okay, I didn’t really cook anything here. To be frank, I assembled. But I swear you’re going to love this toast.

I have loved this toast ever since I was young. My aunt used to take me and my sister on a drive to the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto to buy smoked salmon. We would then come back home and she would give a blind eye to my little hands reaching up and taking pieces of salmon.

She makes hers on toasted french baguette slices as a party appetizer. As I grew older, I started to prefer savoury foods for breakfast and this toast is one of my absolute favourites. I experiment with different bread types but I always go back to multigrain.

I only had chives on hand but I usually use dill as it pairs perfectly with salmon. Try different herbs with yours and let me know how it goes!

Smoked Salmon Toast

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of toast
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese
  • 2 thin slices cucumber
  • 2-3 thin slices smoked salmon
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • chives, garnish

Instructions

  1. Spread cream cheese on toast. Season with salt and pepper. Place cucumber slices evenly on top of cream cheese. Layer salmon slices on top. Garnish with chives.
